Airtel launched its new thin client , a cloud computing based computer which is cheap and can be a good point for first time PC buyer and also for those who want just basic computer and net surfing with low cost.  The new computer from Airtel is called as "Airtel Net PC" is powered by Microsoft Windows XP and Nivio online storage. It provides 10 GB of online storage which means that don't have to worry about data security as data is 100% secure.

It is priced at Rs. 7,999 which comes with 15" LCD Monitor, keyboard, mouse and Nivio companion (which enables the PC to connect to a backend Linux-run server for storage and applications). There is also option to buy this package without Monitor for Rs. 4,999 . This device consume only 4 to 5 watt of energy thus making it an energy efficient gadget. However,I think  company is not counting Monitor  in it.

The hardware and software (genuine Windows XP) for the Net PC will be provided by Nivio and Airtel will provide the internet connection.

Well this is really amazing concept pc.. and really helpful for ppl who just want to surf internet... like many ppl use comp for online chating with their relatives online and all so best option for them.

Also price is not high tht ppl cant afford.. but ppl will definately look at storage as a disadvantage .

I don't understand how these limited / capped plan will do justice when you are storing data online. Are they not going to count "Storage data transfer" into the account.

Well cant get tht detail of screen resolution ..but i can tell tht airtel will have tieup with a good company and where thy will get the monitors in bulk @ cheap price.. I doubt wether thy will give a branded LCD monitor at this rate.

not that way....

I have a couple of friends working in Guangdong and Fujian, China.
They said, Production cost for a 17 inch LCD panel is INR 500.

But, YOU and ME CAN'T buy it..... those prices are for OEMs.

Anyways, its mind boggling how much margins these MNC's have.
