    The sky is not blue but it APPEARS blue. The white light consists of different colours. As the light from sun comes towards earth, the blue light is absorbed maximally by the gas molcules of the atmosphere and then it is scaterred in all directions therefore sky looks blue. However, depending on the position, the amount of scattering varies and therefore sky may look pale, white or red at different timing and positions !!!
