Today I was passing by 10 Jan path road and I seen Sonia Gandhi going toward the Airport. Suddenly the Bandra Worli sea link comes in mind that today is its inauguration day.

Yes the Most Awaited Bandra-Worli sea link innaugrated by Ms. Sonia Gandhi the Congress President and UPA Chairperson.

The Bandra-Worli Sea Link brought a huge relief to the millions of commuters, who used to pass through 23 traffic signals and spend 45 minutes to travel between Bandra and Worli. Now they are relaxed with this new sea link as now they have to spend 6 -7 minutes to Reach Bandra to Worli. Amazing isn’t it??

The Sea Link project is 4-km long in the sea and 1.6-km long in road. Total length of the sea link is 5.6 km. The link has a toll plaza of 16 lanes. It will save fuel to the tune of Rs 260 crore annually.

The Bandra-Worli Sea Link will connect Mumbai’s Mahim intersection of the Western Express Highway and Swami Vivekananda Marg at the Bandra end to Khan Abdul Gaffar Khan Road at the Worli end.

This project took 5 years to complete with the cost of Rs 1,634 crore. The project was developed by the Maharashtra State Road Development Corp (MSRDC). And the Sea Link will be named after late Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi.

The toll charges for the light and heavy vehicles will be between Rs. 50 and Rs. 100.

Is it justified to take 10 years to build it and  spent Rs. 1647 crore. It has 8 lanes in total and initially will start with 4 lanes. I am sure, in just 2-3 years, there will requirement  of 16 lanes or more.

Another example where practical use hindered because of delays .

I am not sure if it has facility of 8 lanes or not but as predicted, already there is heavy Traffic Jam.  It could have been useful if was completed 4-5 years back but now seems already its out of capacity.

Though initially there is no toll tax for few few days but even after that its delay hindered its usability.
