Man held for raping two-year old

A 24-year-old man kidnapped his neighbour’s two-year-old daughter, took her to his house and raped her before handing the child back to her worried parents, who thought she had gone missing.

The incident was reported in Southeast Delhi’s Govindpuri area on Tuesday evening.

Police officials identified the accused as Subodh Kumar. On Monday evening, the girl’s parents had stepped outside to buy grocery. Subodh slipped into the house, picked up the girl and went back to his house. He then allegedly raped the girl there.

“The girl’s parents, meanwhile, returned home to find her missing. They raised an alarm and started looking for her in the locality, thinking that the girl, who just started walking, had gone outside as she was unattended. Their neighbours too joined in the search,” a senior police official said.

By this time, Subodh came out of the house with the girl and went to her parents, saying that he had found her. The girl’s mother then took her back home and noticed that she was unwell.

The girl, who can barely utter words yet and still breastfeeds, looked like she was in great pain. While bathing the girl, her mother found bruises and signs of trauma on her body.

On Tuesday, her mother took her to a private clinic, where the doctor advised her to take the girl to the Govindpuri police station. The police took her to a city hospital, where sexual assault was confirmed. After a case was registered, the police took the statements of neighbours.
