Hinduja Group company Ashok Leyland on Thursday launched a new 49-tonne heavy commercial vehicle (HCV), 4921TT, priced at Rs 19.75 lakh.

The company expects to sell nearly 1,000 units of the HCV this fiscal.

"The market for 49-tonne HCVs is growing and is expected to be around 2,000 units in the current fiscal, we are targeting to sell nearly 1,000 units of our 4921TT in this segment," Ashok Leyland Chief Operating Officer Vinod K Dasari told reporters here.

He said the company expects its overall sales in the current fiscal to be flat or slightly better than last year.


"In H1 FY08, the overall market for commercial vehicles has dipped by 10 per cent on account of high interest rates but we expect the second half to be better than the first half, which will help us in maintaining our sales level," Dasari added.

The company has sold 37,000 units (including exports) in the first half of this year and expects to sell nearly 40,000 units in H2, he said.
