Hi Sunidhi
Tata Safari costs 895000 and 991000 for EX and GX models respectively (ex showroom and 2wd)
Mahindra mHawk VLX costs 930000 ex showroom

As per my view, if you want to go for something more refined, with responsive performance and latest enhancement then go for Mhawk, its very good. However, if you want to go for some Class, which Safari has been able to maintain entry level SUV section then Safari is best. However, as said, Scorpio Mhawk is more refined than Safari.

Neverthless to say, very soon new model of Safari is about to come, I am not sure about date but first or second quarter of 2010, however will be better than current Safari. Can be worth to wait.

Thx Ricky
My main concern is the maintenance of the vehicle. I went thru an article which said it costs 6000-8000 per month to maintain safari. Can u give some adv on that.

That is ridiculous,  even on full service of new Safari you won't be spending that amount. But it is true that there is little more wear and tear in Safari as it lacks refinement (but you won't face any such until you buy a new vehicle) or I feel TATA don't work accordingly on customer / mechanic feedback.

Above all, if you take care of you vehicle / car properly then it will never hog your pockets. Major problem arises only out of ignorance.

I've owned 3 safaris till date...

No comparision...Comfort is world class.
Space is more than Scorpio...so is thet Image impression!

You can see Scorpio in TAXI, but never for Safari.

but maintainance is through the roof!!

If you manage to harm the suspension (Which will problably happen on terrible indian roads) prepare to spend around 25k.

A complete overhaul is coming probably next year. It will carry on the same base body, but re-designed front nose, Bumper and headlights.
Maybe new tail lights too.

That maintenance cost thing you read in the article is Slightly exaggerated, but reality is still close.
