Hindi Movie Review : Ek Vivaah... Aisa Bhi

Director :  Kaushik Ghatak
Cast : Sonu Sood, Isha Koppikar, Smita Jaykar, Alok Nath, Vishal Malhotra, Shri Vallabh Vyas, Ameya Pandya, Kunal Kumar, Daman Baggan, Amrita Prakash, Jaya Bhattacharya, Anang Desai, Gargi Patel, Prashant Kumar, Chavvi Mittal, Anand Abhyankar

The banner “Rajshree Productions”,  is well known to most of us! We remember it for movies like Hum Aapke Hain Kaun, Maine Pyar Kiya and Vivaah etc.  Rajshree Productions have now given us another movie based around family drama, especially wedding! This movie, like previous ones, is full of messages about family priorities and responsibilities.  In short this movie is based on personal sacrifices for the sake of family and close ones.
Movie revolves around Chandini (Isha Koppikar) who is an aspiring singer. She falls in love with Prem (Sonu Sood)! Everything is going fine, but right before their marriage, her father (Alok Nath) dies. So now, Chandini has  a whole lot of new responsibilities as regards her family, that is, her siblings. Being from a middle class family, she is now the eldest and responsibilities can not be denied. So her marriage is canceled! Since Prem is also determined to retrieve her love, he just does a long wait for her!  It is a twelve years long wait and with lots of family drama and glitches, but the movie goes to a happy ending, with everybody, living happily ever after!

As said earlier,  the movie is about love and sacrifices. There is bit of hate also like her Aunty who is there to keep a hold on her property after her father died. Later on, Anuj (her brother) who got capable enough to look after family was carried away by her wife to live separate from the family. Also mother of Prem is almost fed up with this long wait and now wants both to take separate ways.

So far, a typical Rajshree film and looks like inspired from some old flick, I am not sure about the  name. Anyways, it is a typical Rajshree film, a movie filled up with marriages, three in total and lots of rituals and ceremonies.  It is enjoyable if you roots are from middle class families but you now miss them.

Moving further, one thing in the story line annoys me a lot and that is that if Prem and Chandini were so much attached, then why Prem never helped her? He is portrayed as a rich person then why the problem of family? He could have married her and solved the family problem. Anyway, in too many movies, people will be so sacrificing that they will hardly think twice while making decisions on subjects like marriage and responsibilities.   I guess still this movie will appeal to the masses as some people will relate it to our actual culture. And of course there ARE people who sacrifice themselves for the sack of their families.

Apart of few loopholes, scripting is average while performances of almost all the characters are at the right level. Isha and Sonu Sood looked natural and hence performances of both of them may be termed as good! Also, the look and feel of the movie is crafted properly; viewers may relate it easily to their deep roots.

Music wise, this time there is not much to remember as is expected from a traditional Rajshree film. Overall, this movie may get appreciation and positive words of mouth! ‘Ek Vivah Aisa Bhi” is families flick with many lessons but, for some they may not even sound practical.

I give it a rating of 3 out of 5.
