Review of Hindi Movie Bachna Ae Haseeno !

The Review

Bachna Ae Haseeno, a Yash Raj movie.  Another big movie for Ranbir Kapoor and this time with three heroines opposite him.  As from Yash Raj banner, had great expectations. Looking into the movie and its star cast, movie is already was in attention. Moreover, the song Bachna Ae Haseeno, a all time favourite made it even more famous. Recently, the song was all the time in my mind though nothing to do with this movie bachna ae haseeno but still kept me reminding about this movie is coming.

Moving further, movie is about a guy Raj (Ranbir Kapoor) and his encouter of love at various stages of life. He is a real flirt and want to live life they way he wants. Beginning with Mahi (Minissha Lamba) then later on he met Radhika (Bipasha Basu) and finally he meets Gayatri (Deepika Padukane). Well, though with earlier two girls, he was total flirt and dumps them but here, third time he finally understand that he is in love with Gayatri but Gayatri denies her offer.

He, then realizes how wrong it was to ditch anyone and decided to make things right by saying sorry to the girls he dumped. Hence the story takes another turn.

Looking into the story, it is yet common but still a distinctive one. It goes through transformation of a boy to a mature person and later his pursue to accept his mistakes. The first half of the movie looks fine and engaging and his love stories are properly blended but when the difficult part starts ie. boy's wish to ask for sorry, story gets week. It looks like that script starts taking cinematic liberties and becomes too amaturish. Logics given there are no logical.

Looks like that writer started good but later on got tired and was in mood to just finish it all somehow. So I can say a good idea but improper script (specially in later half) made it miserable.

Locations, direction is of good level, even the performance of new comer Ranbir is at top but still movie can't manage to influence you. Talking about Ranbir, he is clear winner of the movie, no matter if this movie also fails, but he will surely get another good project and must be doing some already. On the other hand Minissha is acceptable but weak at some points, Bipasha is Good and  lastly, Deepika was just bearable.

Overall, music is not so distinctive but enjoyed few songs. Cinematography is of a fine level and the thing which let down is the poor script otherwise could be good composition. Frankly, I had expectations with this movie as well as with Ranbir Kapoor, while Ranbir was OK on expectations but movie ruined it all.

You may watch this movie and will not get bored but second half can be suspicious otherwise a good one to spend time in theater. Nothing exciting apart of its name.

An Average movie.. 2.5/5

star news gave it 2.5 stars out of 5 (1/5 star is for ranbir) so overall it's a 2 star movie.

Even before you are introduced to the characters or their conflicts in the film, a promotional music video starring the entire cast initiates the opening titles. The makers attempt to play safe as, with changing times, most audiences make an exit much before the end credits roll.

Bachna Ae Haseeno is the lackadaisical legend of a Casanova character who, in simple terms, ditches two girls and is dumped by the third. Characteristically the story is episodic in format and spread over a time span to pass off as distinct flirtatious flings in the life of the guy at different instances of his adolescence.

The first affair comes as the director’s tribute to Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge where Raj (Ranbir Kapoor) encounters Mahi (Minissha) in Switzerland; they miss their train to Zurich and ride on a two-wheeler across the Swiss Alps. The second episode is a version of director Siddharth Anand’s very own Salaam Namaste where Raj, working in Mumbai, is in a live-in relationship with a raunchy Ranchi girl Radhika (Bipasha Basu) but is not ready for a commitment. Despite all his efforts, when their relationship doesn’t break out, Raj escapes to Australia. The third liaison takes the Victoria No 203 path when Raj falls for an Aussie cabbie Gayatri (Deepika Padukone) but this time the girl isn’t interested.

Gayatri’s rejection makes Raj ruminate on his callous romantic involvements of the past. Seized by guilt pangs, he sets on a mission to trace his ex-flames and seek forgiveness from them. Mahi is now married to Joginder (Kunal Kapoor) but isn’t passionately inclined towards her husband despite a decade-old marriage. Wonder where their two kids came from!!! Raj revives DDLJ again by barging into their family wedding, dancing on a bhangra number and reuniting the couple thereby doing an SRK. The second girl Radhika is now starlet Shriya who makes Raj slog as a slave and you only thank good god that the female domination here doesn’t end up into another Ugly aur Pagli . Need I reveal the expected end?

Bachna Ae Haseeno isn’t completely clichéd but palpably predictable throughout. The screenplay adopts a simplistic unconnected episodic pattern without opting for any experimentation. Even the romance isn’t as fervently formulated as yesteryear Yash Raj classics. Love is induced through dialogues that speak of anecdotes of astronomer Rakesh Sharma (Huh) in the Minissha episode and is rushed through a song number in the Deepika chapter. Comparatively Bipasha gets the better portions. One expects the graph to ascend in the second half as Raj sets on a reconciliation route but the treatment doesn’t show much innovation and disappoints. The end is so conveniently drafted that the film loses the much called for climax.

On the upside, Vishal-Shekhar’s music has the lively spunk to support the story. The musical interludes derived from R D Burman’s composition jazz up the background score. The cinematography is cool but nothing unseen before. Of course there are those mandatory smooch scenes in each episode as per the pre-defined Yash Raj clause.

The film goes entirely in favour of Ranbir Kapoor. With his endearing boyish charm and a delightful personality, Ranbir gives his liveliest best to all the three tracks of the film to win your heart. Bipasha comes a close second and shares the best chemistry with Ranbir irrespective of their age-gap that doesn’t show onscreen. Minissha attempts to be the bubbly girl and has a strong Preity Zinta hangover in her dialogue delivery. Deepika doesn’t disappoint but her story isn’t fleshed out much. Hiten Paintal could be a worthy replacement to the likes of Vishal Malhotra and Vrajesh Hirjee in playing the hero’s best pal.

Bachna Ae Haseeno could be translated as ‘beware beauties’. But for the lack of an ageless appeal coming from such feel-good films that leaves a long-lasting smile on your face, the title could be punctuated as Bachna Ae, Hasee-No (Caution, not many smiles ahead).
