Movie Synopsis and Review - RANN

Rann is a power packed movie having many characters and each doing a stupendous performance in the film.

Rann means battle. And battle is a fight between large organized forces. Large organized forces are at war with one another and this is especially true of news channels.

Harshvardhan Malik (Amitabh Bachan) is a Harvard-educated journalist, who gives values to media ethics and no wonder his channel is batting for survival. Jay Malik(Sudeep) is highly ambitious and sees his dad's news channel as just for gaining profit. Jay hates that his competition(Monish bhel) is doing better than him as he believes in making news than reporting it. Ritesh Deshmuck as Purab is playing the part of a journalist who aggressively wants to work towards a better India and gets in conflict with Mohan Pandey(Paresh Rawal) who is power crazy. Now Harshvardhan Malik’s son-in-law Navin(Rajat Kapoor) who is a industrialist and wants to be at the no. 1 position and son Jay become pawns in the hands of this politician who plans his own game to reach the prime minister’s chair. But their dreams can turn to ashes by Purab (Ritesh) who like Amitabh believes in reporting the truth to the people at any cost.


A very well written script and powerful dialogue delivery by all the actors. It has no masala and is neither a Khichdi made by mixing different movies. It is a serious film and the movie lovers should watch this one for a complete change and a look into the media world and see what happens behind the camera’s and how the news are made and reported to catch the attention of the people.

Amitabh Bachan has done a superb job and so has  Paresh rawal , Sudeep and Ritesh Dekhmuck. All characters from Monish Bhel whose acting will be appreciated in the movie to Rajpal Yadaw as the creative director with a knack for sensationalizing even the dullest of news stories to Gul Parang and Suchitra Krishnamurthy have acted well.

This movie has its own place and cannot be compared to any other film. It is serious but with a new look and subject and the writing and cinematography are capturing to say the least. The movie has one or two ups and downs but the climax will leave all disappointments at bay.
