Press Trust of India

China is bullying India: Fernandes
China is bullying India: Fernandes

Sunday, March 30, 2008 (New Delhi)

Describing as an ''error'', the NDA government's decision to recognise Tibet as a part of China, former defence minister George Fernandes has said the Communist nation was ''potential threat number one'' to India and flayed the UPA dispensation for allowing it to be ''bullied''.

Venting anger over the Tibet crisis and India's response to it, the NDA leader said the Olympic torch should not be allowed to come to India and that he had asked his ''colleagues'' and others to make ''whatever effort'' to prevent the flame's run in this country.

''It was not a mistake but an error. It should not have been done,'' he said about India's decision to recognise Tibet as part of China during the previous Atal Bihari Vajpayee government in which he was the defence minister.

In an interview on a private news channel, Fernandes said that China is ''still potential threat number one'' and ''could become an enemy'', as he recalled his statement on similar lines 10 years back.

Commenting on the recent incident of Indian Ambassador Nirupama Rao being summoned by the Chinese Foreign Ministry past midnight, Fernandes said New Delhi had ''surrendered'' over the issue.

''Well, our government allowed it. It has no shame,'' he said, adding that the government should have advised its envoy to wait till the next day. ''Elsewhere that's what would have happened.''

Rao was summoned past midnight to register concern over breach of security at Chinese Embassy here. ''India has sold out to China,'' he alleged. Asked whether India was being ''bullied'' by China, Fernandes replied ''absolutely, and it accepts it.''

Torch was already relayed yesterday.  Well, I dont understand, why Indian Govt. is like that? I guess, if it was American Ambassador then would have created chaos everywhere but our Govt. was silent and still silence. He has used right word.. "Delhi had surrendered" .

Good to learn good things from others but should not forget that China is not really friendly by heart. They want to be dominating and you can guess that from many recent activities.

we last our upper hand during (Late) Krishnamenon time.

it is difficult to rewind time - and capture our real position.

Compare to India, China, Pakistan plays their cards more wisely - which our honourable Ministers should learn how to play cards in international affairs - where we are utter failure.

Latest news headlines were that China is constantly hacking and scanning Indian computer network and were brought down many times. Feels like they are making sure that in the time of warfare they can easily sabotage Indian networks.
In today's newspaper, there were 2 articles on same.

There was post by Pluto named.. "India Sleeps --China Gains" and that is very true !

USA blames India and China for the Global inflation, fodd prices rise, and higher energy consumption.

china is building up their infrastructure, higher food production, and strong economy.  they are are building up their defence with all hi-tech technology, nuclear submarines.  China joing with Pakistan, conquering Nepal (through Maos), their presence in Tibet are all a threat to Indian survival.

Demostic politices are turning bad to worst - Congress don't believe Left and Left wanted to pull the carpet of UPA.  Congress wanted UPA without Left and Left wanted coliation without Congress.   were we heading - to choas.

It is high time for India to wake up and stand before many challenges (not for a success) but for atleast survival.

You all are making mistake in understanding the indian foreign policy.
There is a thin line in being modest and being tamed.the point is how you see it.
India under promise -over perform .i mean tell me except pakisthan which country does india have fragile relations with.;no not even relations with china are fragile .for the record india' one of thf biggert bilateral trade partner is china.
And what all i said is proved by the fact that india in regard to the discriminating CTBT and NPTis against firmly.

With a Quick-Reply you can use bulletin board code and smileys as you would in a normal post, but much more conveniently.
