In a move that is generally accepted to have taken his own home ministry by surprise, Brown announced the English tests for new spouses, mainly from the Indian sub-continent. He said: "We will introduce a new English language requirement for those applying for a marriage visa and planning to settle in the UK – both as part of our determination that everyone who comes here to live should be able to speak English and to make sure they cannot be exploited."

Ya me too agree. As per me each person should know alteast 2 languages. & Engilish is International Language .  ... if u r in India or or abroad, English is must.  Its fair enough.

I understand why they want to enforce this law, b'se of forced marriages (well people here think even arranged marriages are forced, even though the whole royal family's marriages have been arranged).

I agree with hdravid.  It may be easy for many of the people but in a few exceptional cases the girl or the boy may not have learnt English? May be they should teach english to people once they reach here, give them some limited period by which they should learn English  give them a few chances.

With a Quick-Reply you can use bulletin board code and smileys as you would in a normal post, but much more conveniently.
