Shilpa Shetty, who is presently in London, UK in Big Brother's House ( indian version -  Big Boss) Is Facing RACESIM.

Britain's broadcasting watchdog Ofcom is investigating nearly 200 complaints about alleged racism against her even as strong opinions are being expressed on Asian radio stations and websites in her support.

Asian radio station Sunrise received several calls on a phone-in on Sunday from viewers, complaining about racism against Shetty.

According to her fans, the long-legged Bollywood stunner is being targeted by some housemates because she is Indian and is being described in what can be called unparliamentary language.

Shilpa Shetty is the first Bollywood celebrity to particiate in the UK reality TV show Big Brother.
Big Brother housemates Jade Goody, Danielle Lloyd and Jo O'Meara seem to have ganged up against Shetty in the past few days. Shetty has become the subject of snide and biting remarks because of her hauteur and background as the heartthrob of millions of Bollywood fans.

Channel Four, which broadcasts the popular reality show, has said that her treatment in the house is "girly rivalry" and that it would not tolerate bullying or racism.

Shetty's housemates have often referred to her as 'the Indian', and some have found it difficult to pronounce her name, poked fun at her accent and asked her if she lived in a shack.

An Ofcom spokeswoman said: "We have had approximately 200 complaints of racism. Quite a lot of websites have been discussing the issue and urging people to get in contact with us. We will look into each individual complaint."

Speaking to the BBC Asian Network, evicted housemate Carole Malone said she believes the incidents were motivated by jealousy.

"Shilpa is too good looking for her own good. She's an incredibly powerful and beautiful woman. She is a very strong woman and can handle it."

"I spoke to her about it when I was in the house. Shilpa feels that she represents the Indian/Asian community and doesn't want to let them or herself down by retaliating".

The Evening Standard reported that producers of the reality show held an emergency meeting on Monday to discuss whether comments made to Shetty could be construed as racism.

An unnamed source told the paper: "Shilpa was not called a 'paki'. If the producers thought that anything that was said was overtly racist, the contestant who made the remark would be out.

"Shilpa is no shrinking violet and is standing up for herself. But producers are very concerned about the situation and monitoring the housemates very closely regarding this issue."

The matter has even been reported to the Police and they are investigationg into it.

CBB5 sponcer carphone had diclaired to withdraw its £3 million sponshorship if the case is not solved.

Day 15, 02:38 UTC - by Neil Wilkes

Warning: This article contains language and/or sexual references that younger readers are advised to avoid.

Jade's anger towards Shilpa has now grown to the point that she wishes to attack her.

The frustrated housemate let off steam in an hour-long, Shilpa-themed bitchfest with Jo, Danielle, Jack and Cleo last night.

Jade was insistent that she would no longer speak to Shilpa following the day's events - and wasn't bothered if it affected her standing within the group. "If it's upset people in this house, so what? Bading nominate me... I ain't bothered!"

"I look at her and I wanna headbutt her," she continued, before demonstrating one of Shilpa's facial expressions that particularly riled her. "I wanna wipe that smug look off her face."

She also accused Shilpa of turning Dirk and Jermaine against her - but once again, she was unfazed. "I don't care if you're Jermaine Jackson, Shilpa whoever you are, or Dirk whatever your name is," she said defiantly. "If you wanna be short with me, fine!"

Of Shilpa's apparent actions, she added: "I think it's nasty and she's very very manipulative. Very. In my eyes she's a nasty piece of work."

Shuch is the reaction of Jade ... The Bully!!

"No overt racial abuse", says Channel 4
Day 15, 17:56 UTC - by James Welsh

Channel 4 has issued a statement regarding the ongoing allegations of racism and bullying in the Big Brother house.

The statement in full:

"To date there has been no overt racial abuse or racist behaviour directed against Shilpa Shetty within the Big Brother house. However there has undoubtedly been a cultural and class clash between her and three of the British females in the house.

"Unambiguous racist behaviour and language is not tolerated under any circumstances in the Big Brother house. Housemates are constantly monitored and Channel 4 would intervene if a clear instance of this arose.

"It is in the nature of Big Brother that conflicts arise and housemates are encouraged to resolve issues among themselves.

"Shilpa has not voiced any concerns of racial abuse to Big Brother. Housemates have access to support from Big Brother at all times.

"The issue of whether there is racism in the CBB House has been discussed on Channel 4's companion programmes CBBLB and BB's BM and a range of views has been aired, including those of BB viewers."

By Stephen Brook / Reality TV 10:18am, 18 January, 2007

Channel 4 boss Andy Duncan is much more like Jade Goody than I previously realised. When he was asked to justify Celebrity Big Brother the man gave a one fingered salute and ran away. How very chav.

He now looks like a man who runs a network that refuses to deal with overt bullying and racism.

When the Daily Mirror approached Duncan at home over the Big Brother fiasco yesterday, the paper said that he put his face over his hands, refused to speak, and then gave the photographer the finger.

Peter Bazalgette, a boss at producer Endemol, a man never lost for words about how Big Brother changed the face of television, indeed of Britain, slammed his door and told the Mirror to "phone his office".

The best that Luke Johnson, Channel 4 chairman, could come up with this morning when questioned on the Today programme, was to tell the millions of listeners that C4 had already put out a statement.

Pathetic. Even more galling is what the network actually did say: "Shilpa has not voiced any concerns of racial abuse to Big Brother. Housemates have access to support from Big Brother at all times."

That was Channel 4 on Wednesday. Yet that evening on Channel 4 Shilpa confided to Cleo that the attacks against her were racist - and those scenes were recorded on Tuesday - before Channel 4 put out its statement. It appears the Channel has been caught out.

Is Channel 4 so worried about its cash cow that it cannot act against blatant wrong-doing, or even admit such wrong-doing?

It's the same all over the world. In Australia two male housemates held down a female housemate while one slapped his penis on her face. They were thrown out of the show, only for the host to tell them they were "fantastic housemates". The Australian prime minister was strongly critical and Big Brother was forced to cancel its late night uncut version.

What will happen here?

Channel 4 is going cap in hand to the government asking for more money to safeguard its future.
And just how sympathetic to this will Gordon Brown be after they have thoroughly embarrassed his trip to India after he was forced to field questions about British racism.

Channel 4 - set up to serve the interests of minorities - is giving the impression that it does not particularly care about the behaviour Jade, Jo and Danielle have displayed towards Shilpa.

At the beginning of the week Channel 4 were rubbing their hands with glee about the front page coverage that the Shilpa/Jade/Danielle/Jo row was gaining. From being a dull CBB this had become a talked about show and the ratings surged upwards.

But now the show has become an embarrassment at a very unfortunate time. What should Channel 4 do now? And what should we do to Channel 4?
